New Music Alert: Trina (@TRINArockstarr)-“F*uck Boy”

This has been one helluva week in rap and hip-hop for the ladies! First, Missy Elliot returns after a seven year hiatus with a new single and new music video, WTF (Where They From)! Naturally, most of us were thrilled to have her back, but the shocks do not stop there as the original “Baddest Bitch,” Trina is back with a new single of her own, “Fuck Boy!”

This has been one helluva week in rap and hip-hop for the ladies! First, Missy Elliot returns after a seven year hiatus with a new single and new music videoWTF (Where They From)! Naturally, most of us were thrilled to have her back, but the shocks do not stop there as the original “Baddest Bitch,” Trina is back with a new single of her own, “Fuck Boy!” It has been quite some time since we heard from her and needless to say she definitely delivers with this new single. Many, will find themselves nostalgic as they listen to it. Check it out below!

Are you finding yourself a little nostalgic for Eazy-E and NWA? There’s no surprise there as Trina has put her own spin on the gangster rapper’s hit song, Boyz In The Hood. Trina’s spin is pretty hot, though, she definitely did the original work some justice with her own female empowering/”I can do bad all by myself” seasoning to the single. What is next for Trina though? Hopefully this means she too will have a new album on the way. A bigger and better question is when are the other female rap/hip-hop artists coming back out? We love you Nicki Minaj, but there is nothing wrong with a little diversity! Let’s hear it for the ladies!

Scared Much or Police Harassment? LAPD (@LAPD) Increased Police Presence Amidst Straight Outta Compton (@ComptonMovie) Thursday Opening!

Since when has the Thursday opening of a movie ever put the Los Angeles Police Department on alert? Well there is a first for everything and it looks like Straight Outta Compton is coincidentally the cause of this alert. As you already know, the film entails the formation of N.W.A and the rise of Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Eazy-E. It also details some of their oppressive and harassing encounters with the local police department, the aforementioned LAPD. N.W.A.’s hit song, Fuck The Police garnered widespread popularity as a protest against racial profiling and police harassment in the early nineties.

“Straight Outta Compton” to a Straight Out Hit!

The music, the controversy, the brotherhood–Straight Outta Compton is the defining film of 2015. If you ever thought you knew all there is to know about N.W.A., then think again because this film sheds light on everything. The biopic centers around Ice Cube (O’Shea Jackson, Jr.), Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins), and Eazy-E (Jason Mitchell) as they rose from obscurity, oppression, and violence in the ghetto of Compton, California to become rap icons and form a group that personified a generation. Besides learning more about each of the artists personal struggles we get to know more about other members of N.W.A. like DJ Yella and MC Ren.  The film begins with an epic drug run from Eazy-E that sets a tone for the film–do or die! As the film progresses we see each rapper follow their own paths to greatness, all the while struggling to keep their brotherhood intact in the face of fame.

The music in this film is truly epic. You really feel like you are right there with N.W.A. and their fans as they perform hits like Fuck The Police or when Ice Cube spits the ultimate diss track, No Vaseline! However, even beyond the music is the stellar performance of the actors. They were PHENOMENAL! Nevertheless, it is Ice Cube’s own son, O’Shea Jackson, Jr. AKA OMG, who steals the film. Casting for his role was dead on! He looks, acts, and sounds exactly like his famous father. We are definitely hoping to see him in more films and soon. If there was ever an homage to gangsta rap, or just rap in general, this film is it. Every single rapper who reigns on the Billboard charts today owes their success to a group of guys “Straight Outta Compton!” Be sure you see this film a good three or four times and grab their albums off Ebay. Take note Lifetime and Wendy Williams, this is how you do a biopic!

8/13/15- “F**k The Police!”

Hey Mikey,

I’m a police officer–let the hate begin. I went to a screening of the new NWA film, Straight Outta Compton, and am really feeling upset right now. I was practically a kid when the group first came out, and like so many others my age I too yelled “Fuck the police!” when the song came on. I know now that was wrong and disrespectful. Nobody believes there are any good cops anymore. I’m really feeling this movie is gonna bring about a new wave of anti-police sentiments among the youth and I don’t support it. My sister and nephew are going to see it tomorrow when it comes out. As her brother, who is a cop, I’ve voiced my opinion about the film and she’s still gonna take my fifteen year old nephew to see the film. I don’t feel she supports me or is willing to see anything from my point of view. She says I’m overreacting. What do you think?

-Nobody’s Pig

n-w-a-movie-character-poster

***Nobody’s Pig, I saw the same film you saw and it was not completely anti-police, in fact I consider it to be anti-oppression! The cops in that film clearly abused their power and NWA’s Fuck The Police is a clear reaction against that oppression. There are good and bad cops, but this acts of brutality are making more and more people uncomfortable. The biopic your nephew and sister are seeing tomorrow is just an edited reenactment of a series of life events of a few men. Eazy-E, Ice Cube, and Dr. Dre are not the judge, executioner, and jury on any cops. Don’t make the same mistake of law officials from nearly thirty years ago and label a fight song as terrorism. Besides, it is just one of a myriad of controversial songs they released. Remain “Nobody’s Pig” and be a great officer! However, this is a fight not worth having with family. Make like Elsa and “Let It Go!”

The Trailer for the N.W.A. Biopic “Straight Outta Compton” Has Arrived!

When you think West Coast gangsta rap only one group comes to mind and that’s NWA (Niggaz With Attitude) which consisted of Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, MC Ren and DJ Yella. Everything about the group led to them being one of the most legendary music groups of all time from their explicit hardcore lyrics to the glorification of crime which subsequently led to their music being banned from several mainstream American radio stations.

Everything about the group led to them being one of the most legendary music groups of all time from their explicit hardcore lyrics to the glorification of crime which subsequently led to their music being banned from several mainstream American radio stations.

The group had a successful run from 1986-1991 and their story will finally be gracing the big screen come August 2015. The N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton got its first trailer premiered during a concert in Sydney, Australia.

NWA

While it’s not of the greatest video quality, a few fans who were present captured the trailer and uploaded it to YouTube for the rest of the world to see.

“Let me tell you what I see here: A lot of raw talent, swagger, bravado. People are scared of you guys, they think you’re dangerous, but you have a unique voice. The world needs to hear it,” says Paul Giamatti, who stars as Jerry Heller, N.W.A.’s manager and the co-founder of Ruthless Records.

Straight Outta Compton was directed by F. Gary Gray and stars Jason Mitchell as Eazy E, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube’s own son O’Shea Jackson Jr. as his father.

Both Dr. Dre and Ice Cube are heavily involved with the making of this film so we know we can expect greatness! What do you think about the trailer? Are you ready to start bumping F— Tha Police from your car speakers yet?
