Chris June was born Chris Williams and raised in Largo, MD to a single mother. The arts embraced Chris from a young age, indulging him in creative outlets frequently. Theatre, drawing, and even designing clothes in high school were just some of his endeavors. However, it wasn’t until drama class that he’d find belongingness in his ability to embody characters. After a few years, he’d cleaned up his gift and go on to Salisbury University where he’d obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Why a degree in Psychology do you ask? June goes on to explain how he puts to use his degree through every character he portrays on television and stage.

We are, however, talking about Kash Dinero covering Tevin Campbell’s song, “Tell Me What You Want Me To Do” in Episode 7 of About HimSeason 2: The Revolution!

You can see the full video in Episode 7 of About Him: The Revolution. Kash’s cover of such a classic song comes as a surprise not because of the song choice, but because none of us knew he could sing. We are very familiar with the singer’s background (and we are still swooning) and are thrilled he can add this to his “body of work”–we mean repertoire! Dinero is a great singer and we hope to hear more music from him, even some original tracks. This song choice however is just perfect. Dustin (Gary Lavard) and Armani (Chris June) are definitely the super couple of web series in general right now and their love story has the potential to be as deep or legendary as any two star-crossed lovers lining the walls of fictional history.
What do you guys think of Kash’s song. We definitely would not mind a soundtrack of original music from this season of About Him (HINT, HINT) and are really loving how this season is progressing. It has been a wild ride as we counted down twenty-three long days to the season premiere of Signal 23 TV’s About Him Season 2: The Revolution!

The Series
As you recall, the new season of the series on the network will not be a continuation of the first season. Gary Lavard is now “Dustin,” a gay college student hopelessly in love with campus hottie, “Armani” (Chris June). For Dustin it is love at first sight and he wants nothing more than to be with his dream boy, but is haunted by memories of homophobia and his own painful lessons in what it means to be Black and gay in this time period. Dustin is inquisitive and hopeful, but like so many gay men has filled his emptiness and pain with man after man. He prays Armani is the one. His prospects finally seem to be looking better when he finds himself in an African-American Studies class with Armani and the two reluctantly hit it off–with a little nudge from his best female friend (or friend-girl, as The Kidz like to say).
The budding couple’s pleasure is soon tainted by pain, however, when while trying to hook up they witness a hate crime so graphic and vile you will feel your heart wrenching. For Dustin love will always be “About Him,” but he may soon learn everything comes with a price and sometimes with a fight. Let The Revolution begin…
We have to say this is by far the best web series we have yet to see. It was worth the wait and anticipation. The story line’s timing is right on, especially in a renewed age of social activism. This series reminds us of darker times when being gay was deemed wrong on every level and systemic homophobia was rampant. Henderson Maddox has truly outdone himself with this piece of work. Gary Lavard, Valerie Payton, Sherrod Willis, Rion Deshon, Darius Lavale, and Zahir Roberts along with newbies, Corey Thompson, Levi Erik, Danny Rowe, Jaquay Wilkerson, Thomas Mackey, and Toni Bernard were all there in full effect! Faithfully and diligently, we have been tuning into see watch William (Will), Kadoe, Ivan, and Addison ten years in the past as they grow to become the men we know and love. Beyond the drama, sex, intrigue, and craziness; viewers are really getting a taste of what it means to come of age while being Black and gay.
JUST WHEN WE THOUGHT THE SERIES COULD NOT GET ANY WILDER THOUGH, A NEW CHARACTER, PLAYED BY SHERROD WILLIS, HAS BEEN TOSSED IN THE MIX!

Just when we thought the series could not get any wilder though, a new character, played by Sherrod Willis, has been tossed in the mix!
Hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan and growing up in Chicago, Sherrod is an amazing addition to Steel River: When We Were Young. Besides being the newest cast member of the series, he is a rising star who has dreamed of the spotlight since his freshman year in college. “I was in a performing arts group back in Chicago and we did little skits and stuff like that, or promotional videos and I think I took an interest in it then. I never really knew what do or where to go so when I moved down here to Atlanta I saw a web series [Kaleidoscope} I wanted to be a part of and went from there….”Sherrod’s enthusiasm and willingness to go after his dreams stems from his desire to be the best version of himself possible. “I always knew I w anted to be something great–somebody great–but I know that depends on me…”Indeed, Sherrod’s raw talent shined through on his debut episode, “Due Process,” as his character, “Jackson,” not only forced Will (Alex Jante) to confront his sexuality, but seduced and coerced him in one of the hottest sex scenes in web series history!
As “Jackson,” he portrays the soldier brother of Will’s girlfriend, who as the series eludes to in another conversation is “trade.” (via Urban Dictionary; A man who messes around with other men, but no one would ever know by looking or talking to him. Used by gay black men to identify masculine gay men or DL Brothas.) Sherrod goes on to state ,“You’re gonna love him [Jackson], he’s a different type of dude, and I love playing him, and the waves he’s gonna make in the story line kinda make you jump!”Although he admits his episode’s sex scene was hot, he feels the scene between Ivan (Rion Deshon) and his trade love interest (Tripp Ali)was hotter. “They really went in on that. It was just so realistic, like I know people who have told me that they’ve hooked up in a shower or bathroom, or know someone who did. Rion and Tripp are amazing actors, so i gotta give it up for them [he laughs].”
Earlier this month we learned Signal 23 TV and Brandon Karson parted ways and that the second season would be moving in a different direction. Then, oddly and surprisingly, we thought the second season would be aired with Tyson Anthony (creator of Pharm The Series and Entercourse) at the helm after he announced via Facebook that Signal 23 TV and its affiliates would not be airing the series; and that Brandon would be reprising his role of “Damien”.
Then, yet AGAIN we were left in shock, surprise, and a little confused when just last night Signal 23 TV released a teaser trailer for their own second season of About Him, “The Revolution.” Thus, we now have two separate second seasons of About Him to be aired tentatively on two separate networks!
This has been quite a month for About Him!
Earlier this month we learned Signal 23 TV and Brandon Karson parted ways and that the second season would be moving in a different direction. Then, oddly and surprisingly, we thought the second season would be aired with Tyson Anthony (creator of Pharm The Series and Entercourse) at the helm after he announced via Facebook that Signal 23 TV and its affiliates would not be airing the series; and that Brandon would be reprising his role of “Damien”.

For many fans of the series, the teaser trailer has been interpreted as a war cry, that Signal 23 TV is not releasing the web series without a fight. We reached out to both Tyson and Signal 23 TV last night for official statements. Tyson had the following to say:
“Only statement–if it’s not written or based on a novel by Tyson Anthony it’s not an original product and most likely will be removed due to copyright violations.”
Henderson Maddox, the CEO/showrunner of Signal 23 TV, released a simple statement as well via Facebook:
“Let the work speak for itself…#done“
However, Henderson disavows any malice in releasing his teaser, stating nothing is personal and that he is about business. In actuality it is not uncommon for a show to diverge in different directions and with different creative teams. Take a look at Single Ladies, black-ish, and BET’s The Game. Either way this is a very interesting turn of events with About Him and we cannot wait to see what both networks will do with their respective second seasons. We will definitely be watching both, and wish both parties much success!

Apparently, Signal 23 TV is releasing their own second season of the series, with the subheading of The Revolution! This second season brings back Gary Lavard, Rico Pruitt, and Tripp Ali, and newcomer Rion Deshon (Steel River: When We Were Young) but as we reported earlier this week will NOT feature Brandon Karson or Rahim Brazil, as they are starring in Tyson Anthony’s version of About Him!

The trailer for About Him: The Revolution is riveting! It appears to be a war cry, leaving us wondering what will become of the characters this season. We can surmise from the strong figures in it, and the fact that “revolution” is the theme that a major change has taken place in the story line that will alter all the lives of our favorite boys!
